It’s a normal Saturday I am on the computer backing up some articles and preparing to add a new blog. My husband answers the telephone. It was a short conversation and it hits us both. Becca’s gone. We grab the car keys I go right and he goes left. I have multiple options to choose from but decide to follow the path that did not need street crossings just pavement turns. I’m three blocks from home (our block is weird it has nine sides) when he calls to say he has her. She is two blocks away from home merrily walking with Rich. Thank God he is a friend and knows where to return her to. They are headed back to our house and he is madly searching his cell phone for our number which he has at home but not on his cell. That is being rectified right now. I am glad two of us were here to cover at last two of the four major directions and can’t wait till we have some help in knowing which way she went right from the start. Well so much for airing the house out, we are battened down tight and all locked up with our still stale air.

Well We Found Becca Quickly This Time
Saturday, September 26th, 2009A Toll Booth Tale
Thursday, September 24th, 2009On our way to the east coast a funny thing happened at the toll booth. We were about to leave the Ohio Turnpike. I pulled up to the booth and was greeted by a woman with a smile as big as Ohio is wide and as bright as the day was sunny. I watched as her face darkened and her eyebrows pulled together. As her body visibly stiffened and she leaned toward the car I was confused wondering what could possible have brought about such a change in countenance. I knew I was in trouble. Just as suddenly she started to relax. She looked me in the eyes and said “It’s a baby doll isn’t it?” I was confused again for another second till I glanced at the passenger seat. There sat Becca with Kate Noel wrapped snugly in a receiving blanket and cradled in her arms. As I laughed and affirmed it was indeed a doll the woman said “You got me. I thought you had a preemie riding in the front seat.” Before leaving I assured her that at first glance the doll had fooled many people including pediatric nurses. But that is another tale.
Blessings come in all forms.
Thursday, September 24th, 2009Becca was having an off day. She has been experiencing petite mall after petite mall for the past twenty four hours. The result is she is dull, disorientated and moving slow even for her. I took her to “Praise In Action” (PIA is a music program using hand chimes, signing, singing and drama.) despite her befuddled state and she was trying her best to focus between seizures. At PIA we are already preparing for this years Christmas program.

An Angel in 2007
While Virginia, our drama teacher, was explaining one of the songs to the class she turned to Becca and said “Becca you will be sitting and holding your doll..” I never saw a connection made so fast. It was like my daughter was a fully decorated Christmas tree and someone just plugged in the cord. Becca popped up out of her seat and announced “But I didn’t bring baby. I have to get baby. Baby will be Jesus.” Virginia said “Yes Becca you will be Mary. But you can bring baby next week it’s OK we didn’t let you know to bring baby this week.”
Becca has coveted the role of Mary since she was nine years old. For eighteen years I have heard her quietly express her disappointment under her breath. I have watched the longing in her eyes as she watched other girls play the part of Mary, have witnessed her sighs. How I wish I had been forewarned and had my camera there and ready. Becca’s Christmas has started early this year. We work very hard at getting Becca to relay information about things that happen. Usually with only mediocre success. I was amazed at the clarity of her speech tonight. Of the way she strung her words and sentences together to tell her twin and her dad about her good news. Oddly enough Becca seems more excited that baby gets to play Jesus than that she gets to be Mary.
Last year Becca played the part of a village woman. She insisted on carrying her bundled up baby through the whole play. Several people said she wasn’t

Becca and her bundled baby
Mary and shouldn’t be holding the baby but I stood up for her stating that it was in the scriptures there were more babies in Bethlehem than just Jesus. So baby Kate Noel was in the play. This year to my daughter’s delight baby Kate Noel or possibly and maybe more appropriately baby Immanuel will take part in the Christmas pageant snuggled warmly and tenderly in the crook of Becca’s arm.

- Something was funny

Friends, your past displays of love for Becca have already made you dear.
Thursday, September 24th, 2009Your current outpouring of help has made you infinitely dearer still. Your friendship, caring and help has graced our lives and made them easier for the past ten to thirty years. Some of you are new, some have been here through the hard times and others have shared in the good times. I so wish I had the energy and the time to interact with everyone on a frequent basis. Know that I appreciate all of you. We are grateful for your generous gifts which speak volumes of the love that is in your hearts.

August Roll Call
Wednesday, September 16th, 2009Whew I did not think I could get this done till much later this month. It feels good to be able to post this in a timely manner.
I have been deliberately vague about the names of those who have so graciously helped us. I try to give enough info so the people who sent the gift and close friends know who I am thanking but no so much information that strangers could use this roll call as a list for soliciting. So here goes in the order the info is tumbling out of the envelope; all the names I received of the people who brought Becca from 12 % credited all the way to 53% credited.
