Reasons for rules

Sometimes hospital rules seem ridiculous. In the small seven bed step down unit nurses and parents living and working in close quarters became quite comfortable with each other. Four of the beds had a child who was part of a twin pair which made us parents bond together even more. After several weeks one of the patients was going home and his mom came around to all the rooms to say goodbyes and express well wishes to those of us who still had to stay. The nurses were a little unnerved by it but the rest of the parents did not see a problem. It took only one day to find out why the rules had stated that we could not go into the other patients rooms in that small unit.  That poor mom called back to the unit in tears. She was still at her doctor’s office and had just been diagnosed with German measles. She had unwittingly exposed us all. Becca and another patient were all ready in surgeries which would have been postponed if the doctors had know about the exposure. Live viruses and brain surgery just do not mix. Needless to say the rules tightened up severely. We could not even stand in our doorways and talk anymore if we were holding our children. Fortunately no one came down with the measles though all of us and our families were given gamma globulin shots.

But not as good as we would like. Sometimes I think that you are exaggerating and want to give the people a false impression.

And I continue to believe that everything will be fine, people will understand that there are true values, and finally learn to live in harmony with nature!

You know what they say “Truth is stranger than fiction”. Exaggerating just gets one a smaller audience. I know that I do not bother to pay attention to people who exaggerate or lie. Not worth my time to try and figure out what is actually truth.
