What did not need to happen.

cdh1 In June of 2007 Becca suffered an ischemic stroke. A night time seizure bent her neck so hard that it obstructed the carotid artery.

The family slept unaware of her peril, of the seizure that was choking the life out of half of her brain. The damage was extensive.  Becca was totally paralyzed on the left side, and apparently unable to see for the better part of a week.

Becca who previously had the accademic/life skill levels of a preschooler was now reduced to the levels of a toddler.

Not looking our best these days.Improvement will come.

4 Paws For Ability has had very good success with training dogs to alert families to seizures.

If Becca had a seizure alert dog two years ago (back then the family didn’t even know such an animal existed) she would not have lost half the skills it had taken

twenty four years of hard work to develop. At twenty six years old, with only one quarter of her brain mass remaining and the life skill levels of a two year old,

this beautiful loving young woman can not afford another big set back or additional brain loss.

Becca needs a service dog for safety and companionship.

Really. It’s not rocket science. The longer the brain is deprieved of oxygen the more damage that is going to occur. If Becca had been found immediately and her neck straightened out (thus unpinching her carotid artery) we would have been dealing only with a severe prolonged siezure not the loss of 50% of her existing brain mass due to ischemic stroke. An Ischemic stroke is basically a generalized lack of oxygen that damages (if the oxygen deprivation is light) or kills (if the oxygen deprivation is extreme or prolonged) the brain cells in a broad/generalized area.

  11. How often do you write your blogs? I enjoy them a lot 3 2 5

I would like to write once a week. Often I am prevented by projects and events that are part of caring for Becca. Other weeks her care causes ideas to flow and three or four posts come out those weeks. My writing is like my life it comes in clumps; feast or famine.
